iji is the long-living, flexi-musical output project of West Coast, pop/rock eccentric Zach Burba. Since 2004 Zach has released countless records, tapes, and CDs for the moniker that exist on a wide sound spectrum, from studio-reel jangle pop to exploratory bedroom lo-fi, always centered on song and vision. On their new, 2024 album “Automatically”, iji’s music is at its warmest and most direct, with inspired contributions from members of Mega Bog, Big Thief, Dear Nora, and The Lentils. Burba’s tunes take swings at the big and little pictures, riding the surreal highway that connects them, with musings on late capitalism, community, psychic phenomenon, language failure, and the dream world.
